BGH Capital (“BGH”) was established in 2017 by Robin Bishop, Ben Gray and Simon Harle with the objective of creating the pre-eminent private equity firm in Australia and New Zealand. BGH is headquartered in Melbourne, Australia and is an independent firm, owned and managed by its founding partners.
The founding partners have extensive investment experience and a demonstrated ability to build leading investment businesses. Ben Gray and Simon Harle established and led the Australian and New Zealand private equity team at TPG Capital, while Robin Bishop was previously head of Macquarie Capital Australia and New Zealand, the region’s largest investment bank, with a significant portfolio of principal investments.
BGH partners with entrepreneurs and management teams in Australia and New Zealand to help them build strong, sustainable, market-leading businesses. We intend to provide our portfolio companies with the capital they need to grow, as well as analytical, strategic and operational resources to help them realise their full potential. In doing so, we seek to achieve attractive risk-adjusted returns for our investors.
BGH’s team members are themselves investors in our fund, creating a strong alignment of interests with our investors and management teams.
Our purpose is to generate attractive risk-adjusted returns for our investors. The founding partners have established a set of core values and a distinct team culture that support this purpose.
Our business is built on transparency, accountability and trust. As a relationship-driven firm, we are deeply committed to building and sustaining long-term internal and external partnerships, grounded in these values. The reputations of our business and team members are critical. Our commitment to a culture of integrity is reflected in our behaviour—it is the way we do business.
BGH aims to be the pre-eminent private equity firm within the Australian and New Zealand market. We have established a highly experienced and capable team to achieve this goal. Our firm has a high-performance culture. We are committed to continuous improvement and encourage a culture of debate, openness and ongoing learning.
Teamwork is the foundation of our culture. Collaboration lies at the heart of our approach.
A strong “one team” ethos is expected from every employee, ensuring BGH benefits from the collective experience and diversity of all team members to the greatest possible extent. Success is shared throughout the team, reinforcing a culture of shared accountability.
We are focused on making investments in the Australian and New Zealand markets. We believe that these markets present attractive investment destinations, with favourable macro-economic conditions, open business environments and deep pools of investment opportunities.
We seek to invest in mid-market companies, while maintaining the scale required to execute larger buyouts and flexibility to pursue smaller growth deals.
The founding partners have an extensive track record of partnering with management teams and entrepreneurs to build successful businesses across a broad range of industries. While we are a generalist fund, we focus on sectors with attractive fundamentals.
We have a disciplined and systematic framework in place for reviewing and approving investment opportunities. Rigorous analysis, extensive due diligence and detailed risk assessment are cornerstones of our decision-making process.
Our Operations Group is an integral part of our investment strategy. Leveraging its strong local and international networks, the Operations Group assists us in identifying potential investments and supports management teams by providing them with the necessary resources to help them grow their businesses.
